New Face to the Rising Dragon Building
In the month of July we are having the school repainted and touched up and adding Red Bollards to the front for décor and safety – Get ready to see a brighter and neater facility!

Dragon’s Breath
We are going to start a series on our Rising Dragon protocols and codes. Let’s start by defining one of the terms and why we have them. Protocols are teachings and ways to efficiently and safely accomplish tasks or exercises. There are thousands of protocols you have been taught growing up – you just don’t call them that. Did your parents ever teach you how to cross the street? You know…look both ways first; cross with the green light, walk in the crosswalk.

Those rules help you get to the other side safely and efficiently. Do you know how to eat with a fork and knife instead of your hands or when to use a spoon. Or where the napkin goes? That is a protocol for eating. My sister taught us to always pass food from left to right so there wouldn’t be confusion. That is a protocol for the dinner table so we can eat efficiently and safely. We have many protocols in our school – for entering the room, for sparring, for training…all of them so we can maximize our time together – to get the most learning done and done safely!

So all these protocols we have in class and out serve us. Instead of being frustrated by such rules we should embrace them and be thankful we have them. For protocols are our servants to make us better! Next Dragon’s Breath we will talk about Breaking and Entering the Kwoon (school) protocols.

Mexican Fiesta Demonstration (Tentative)
Saturday August 24 at noon at Maier’s Park (Summerfest Grounds) at the sports stage. Join us for almost 2 decades of partnering with Mexican Fiesta and demonstrating our kung fu, kenpo and tai chi forms, self defense, weapons, sparring and breaking boards at Mexican Fiesta. Students and at least one parent will receive a ticket to enter the fiesta free. Be sure you make at least one of the two rehearsals: Thursday August 22 at 5:30 pm. and/or Saturday August 24 at 10 a.m.

Silver City Demonstration
Saturday September 7th 2024 Rising Dragon Martial Arts students can perform at the Silver City festival held at Arlington Park (National and 35th street).
