Silver City International Festival Demonstration
Saturday September 12 at 12:30 pm Rising Dragon Martial Arts students will perform at Silver City International Festival held on Pierce Avenue between 33rd and 39th streets this year. We will do a rehearsal that morning at Rising Dragon school at 10 a.m. This will be similar to the Mexican Fiesta Demo we usually perform with forms, self-defense, weapons, but also breaking of boards!

Rising Dragon Spooktacular Party
Special ghost techniques, haunted story and candy and lots of fun games. Wednesday October 28, 2026 at the Rising Dragon School ages 4-17 from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Over 30 years of screams of fear, delight and pain (hey, its martial arts!) Super Scary Fun Games! Terrifying Tales! Martial Arts Themed Costume Awards. And Candy! Candy! Candy! Come dressed in some martial art themed costume (coming as a weapon, a zombie warrior, one of the fighting animals, a re-breakable board, etc.) All this takes place during our “abnormal” business hours: 5 – 6:15 p.m.
Special Training Class
Saturday morning October 31 at 10 a.m. all ranks at ages are welcome to our Ghost and Shadow Technique class! Super-scary-secret-sets of fighting to make your opponents “afraid” of you so they never fight you again. Muahahhahhahhahhhahhh! Don’t be afraid adults…Ok, be afraid.
Dragon’s Breath: (Part 2/10) The nine animals of Pai Lum
In the last issue we introduced the 9 animals of Pai Lum and today in more detail we will examine and understand one of these animals. Let us start with “Tiger.” Each animal represents more than associated techniques, but a strategy of fighting. Tiger’s strategy is aggression of power and to become overwhelming. Tiger is a fire that burns forwards at the opponent. In secular vernacular this is the guy who just loses it and comes charging at you. I had someone do that in the hallways of 7th grade whose face turned bright red and started coming at me with anger because he thought I threw gum in his hair. Kids were jumping left and right to get out of the way and I just froze until he tackled me. Tiger is frightening. He is essentially the only animal who will announce that he is coming (showing the claws in advance in kung fu and in the wilderness roaring) in order to intimidate the opponent. Tiger trains its bones and muscles to be strong and hard. It trains often with low stances and tension. It often uses powerful kicks and punches that breaks bones. One of its strongest features is the tiger claw which often strikes in first with an elbow or a paw breaking bones before it tears flesh with its claw. In Chinese it is known as the “Fu Jow,” or Tiger Claw. Overall, the tiger is confident, courageous, fearless and ferocious. We can all learn from this style. What is life do you approach as a Tiger
